Research Analyst - Biofuels Research and Analysis

The Programme

The Team: 

Within the Agribusiness & Commodities division, we provide insight and fundamentals of the biofuels industry – the team develops views on the emerging trends that will drive the long-term development of the biofuels market globally and is responsible for generating long-term forecasts on biofuels supply and demand, and the future value and pricing of biofuels.

We forecast product balances and benchmark refining margins, details for national markets around the world as well as guidance on what is an anomaly, and what is a fundamental shift in the market. 
 
The greater Biofuels Research and Analytics team consists of analysts and researchers spread across the globe, with each covering their respective markets and collaborating with other teams across the broader S&P Global Commodity Insights organization.

The biofuels sector has seen tremendous growth over the past few years as a result of increasingly ambitious policies and regulations around the world targeting transport related GHG emissions.  
 
The Biofuels Research and Analytics team provides data, strategic research, and analysis across the biofuels value chain so our clients can make critical decisions with confidence. Energy players, agricultural stalwarts, and financial institutions rely on us to better understand markets and policies with our independent outlook to adjust their business strategy.

  • You will be at the forefront of a rapidly developing industry, with this role offering opportunities to develop in-depth knowledge of the biofuels sector and its role in Energy Transition and the decarbonization of the energy sector. 
  • While your focus will be primarily Asia, you will also have a hand in deciphering the biofuels sector on a global scale. 
  • You will be collaborating with a global team and have exposure and access to other expertise in associated industries.

What You Will Do

  • Monitor and analyze the impacts of changing biofuels related policies and regulations within Asia. 
  • Research and analysis of the biofuels market- covering feedstocks, supply, demand, trade and pricing information from proprietary in-house models and publicly available sources. 
  • Maintain and update various databases and models which are the backbone of our analysis. 
  • Support the regional lead for scheduled reports and deadline-driven research. 
  • Collaborate and support colleagues from other offices within and outside region and other Commodity Insights teams to improve research activities.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, e.g., Economics, Business, etc.; a graduate degree is a plus, but not essential. 
  • Fresh grads may apply, though 2-3 years of experience related research and/or analytical role, typically acquired by working in industry, government, or consulting would be a strong benefit. 
  • Experience in biofuels or other industries such as energy, agricultural commodities, or refined product markets would be advantageous. 
  • High proficiency in Excel and other MS applications required (Word and Powerpoint), ability to program in Visual Basic, Python or r would be a plus. 
  • Excellent English writing and presentation skills. 
  • A self-starter with the ability to work to deadlines and prioritize a complex workload with limited supervision. 
  • Must be flexible with the ability to work collaboratively.
