Graduate Cell and Battery Pack Testing & Development Engineer

The Programme

Due to a significant expansion in activities, the Global Power Electronics & Energy Storage Development Team is looking to increase our headcount and is now recruiting for the role of a Graduate Engineer to support our team. 
 
Successful candidates will have the opportunity to work across different product categories and with teams from a range of engineering disciplines (Power Electronics, Electronics, Mechanical & Product Design). 
 
We are seeking a motivated Graduate Battery Engineer to join our RDD Power Systems Team. 
 
In this role, you will play a crucial part in the testing, analysis, and development of cell and battery systems.  
 
As a key member of our team, you will contribute to advancing our battery technologies and ensuring their reliability and performance meet the highest standards.

What You Will Do

  • Conducting comprehensive testing and evaluation of battery cells and packs using various testing methods and equipment. 
  • Analyzing test data to assess cell and battery performance, reliability, and safety characteristics. 
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify areas for improvement and optimizing battery designs. 
  • Developing test plans and protocols for new cell and battery technologies and product enhancements. 
  • Assisting in the design and implementation of experiments to validate cell and battery performance under different operating conditions. 
  • Contributing to the development of testing procedures and protocols to ensure accuracy and reproducibility. 
  • Participating in the design and execution of validation tests to verify compliance withDyson standards.  
  • Documenting test results, findings, and recommendations in technical reports and presentations. 
  • Adhering to safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment in the laboratory.

Required Skills and Abilities

Ideally you would have proven experience with many of the following activities, although we are also open to applicants without direct experience with cells or batteries, but who can fulfil many other aspects of the role.   
 
Relevant training for specific activities would then be provided.

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemistry, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field. 
  • Previous experience or coursework related to cell or battery technology, electrochemistry, and testing methodologies preferred. 
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and analyze complex data sets. 
  • Proficiency in using laboratory equipment for cell and battery testing and characterization. 
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment. 
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and precision in experimental work. 
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Knowledge of programming languages (e.g., Python, MATLAB) for data analysis is a plus. 
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to battery testing and safety.
